EW&C takes pride in presenting idiosyncratic takes on the most beautiful, ugly and/or interesting music it can find—from early polyphony to avant-pop. Founded by Sarah Good and Annie Shaw, this community choir has included roughly 100 unique members over its 15 year span, including many Hamilton artists and musicians in their ranks. EW&C values creativity and curiosity, leading to many collaborations with local musicians and collectives from Wax Mannequin to Martin Verrall to Sianspheric. EW&C performs in street festivals, venues, and is the regular opening act at Something Else! each year. They have recently settled into space at St Lukes after calling HAVN home for many years.
In 2024 EW&C organized an eclectic series of audio/visual/experimental art at Pier 8 entitled "Pitch Blender at the Pier", produced by the City of Hamilton, featuring such beloved acts as Beverly Glenn-Copeland, Slow Reader, Joyful Joyful, and many more, as well as organized a harmonic extravaganza at St Lukes entitled "Pitch Blender 1000" with Juliana Lachance, Darbazi, and the Substrate Quartet. Our concept of "Pitch Blending" involves participation of musicians and experimental sound artists paired with spoken word poets to create improvisatory and ephemeral works unique to these events.
