In this workshop introducing the shaping and forming of metal you will explore the timeless form of the circle and sphere https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monad_(philosophy). This form is in constant use in the world of jewellery making – not only because of its ubiquity in all areas of our lives but also because our forms, our bodies, are round and spherical.
You will create a sterling silver ring/pendant that will introduce you to: accurate measuring and marking on metal using specialized hand tools, sawing, filing, and finishing basics. Jewellery design basics and an introduction to smithing using different hammers and daps.
You will learn the fundamentals of hard soldering non-ferrous metals and basic non-ferrous metallurgy. How to anneal and an explanation why understanding and performing this process is a cornerstone of metal smithing non-ferrous metals.
This workshop is suitable for someone new to the craft or a more experienced student.
All workshops are taught in Donna’s spacious, comfortable, and well-equipped studio in downtown Hamilton. You will learn by jumping in and beginning a project in the first session!
