Tania is a textile artist and illustrator who loves exploring city streets and local grocery shelves for shape, pattern and colour. Fabric and thread are her default canvas and paint and her primary question is “I wonder what this would look like in fabric?”
Tania spends her time noticing the seemingly mundane and overlooked, finding inspiration in anything from HWW sewer covers to crumpled, discarded chocolate milk cartons found on nearly every Hamilton street corner. Food is a constant inspiration, whether a quilted can of Unico chick peas or a hand stitched slice of toast with marmalade, food and the stories it tells is something she returns to again and again.
Tania began her art journey in Hamilton when she was selected as one of the first Cotton Factory Artists in Residence in 2018 and most recently was selected as one of the short list nominees for the 2024 City of Hamilton Creator Award. Her work has been displayed at the AGH, Relay Coffee, Mixed Media, The Cotton Factory and Merit Brewing, to name a few. One of her current projects is creating a community quilt with the Hamilton Farmers’ Market. She also actively seeks connections with her fellow Hamilton artists by regularly attending art events and taking classes, always with a mind to learning more.
Tania lives in Hamilton with 4 cats (Pinny, Chad, Max and Harry) and her Raleigh bike (Sadie Holt) where her daily explorations of the city continue to contribute to and inspire her art.
