Carlyn Rhamey (They/She) is a Hamilton based storyteller, clown and multidisciplinary artist. As a neurodiverse creator, their artistic practice often has a focus on disability, mental health, exploring with Relaxed Performance and community care. Carlyn’s solo storytelling work (The ADHD Project, Scaredy Cat, SAOR) has toured across North America, selling out performances and earning award recognition. In 2019 The ADHD Project earned the David Seguin Memorial Award for Accessibility in the Arts and currently tours Ontario schools for grades 3-12 through Prologue Performing Arts.

As an artist and advocate, Carlyn has performed in disability conferences across the country, including the National AccessAbility Week, CADDAC ADHD Conference and Innovations in Practice: Western Canadian Conference on Disabilities and Mental Health. Carlyn co-created DISCOCAB: Disability Connection Cabaret with Kit Simmons, a 2x yearly event to support and promote up and coming disabled/neurodiverse/mad+ artists in Hamilton and the surrounding area.

Currently Carlyn is the Artist in Residence with Open Heart Arts Theatre. Their project "Show Home" is a community collaborative performance exploring disability and support work based on Carlyn’s own experience as a DSP.

Carlyn is also a member of The Hamilton 7 Storytelling Collective and FARTS (Femme Arts) Comedy at The Staircase Café Theatre.

In the past Carlyn has created original work for the Frostbites Festival (Show Home, anamnesis), In The Soil Festival, HamilTEN Festival (Dale the Unicorn, Movie Night Episode 2: A New Friend) and more. They have performed with the Lighthouse Festival (Buying the Farm), Aeris Korper (Collapsing the Night), rEvolver Festival (Anna Saves The Marsh) and others.

As a children’s arts educator Carlyn has worked with Stagecoach Performing Arts School, Art Gallery of Hamilton, Arts for All, YMCA’s of Niagara and performs as a storyteller for the Locke St. Farmers Market. They are also currently a primary arts and social studies teacher.

In 2020 Carlyn was presented with the Hamilton Emerging Artist Award. Recently Carlyn completed the Creative Character Development & Personal Transformation Through Clown course with David McMurry Smith in Vancouver B.C. Carlyn hopes to become a therapeutic clown in the near future!
