An immersive community workshop exploring noise and sound is experiential and interactive in nature and set outside in Hamilton's North Central Community Park (Mars Ave and Wentworth St). The invitation is for participants to identify noises/sounds that may come from the industrial sector. Some sounds and noises will be explored through live music, sound art and through movement/dance. Through guided and facilitated movement prompts with demonstrations from artist facilitators and an environmental advocate, participants will be encouraged to identify how certain sounds and noises make one feel and to creatively transmit them through shapes, gestures and action responses that the body creates in the moment. We will also be exploring sounds that are welcomed and desired that may be overshadowed by the industrial sounds, and some that may be hidden. Gentle invitations will be provided for audience to participate, however, all movement and sound invitations are optional. No artist background is required. All abilities welcome! We see this as an opportunity to raise awareness about industrial pollution with a focus on noise pollution in this exploration. We will be outside! Chairs and a few blankets will be available - priority will be for older adults and/or folks with disabilities. Please feel free to bring a blanket to sit on the grass if you wish. If it rains, we will be using Eva Rothwell Centre's outreach room located right across the street from the park(460 Wentworth St. N.) No registration necessary, just show up!
