A fresh off the line, alternative-rock band from the heart of the ever-growing music scene of Hamilton, Ontario. On lead vocals and rhythm guitar, you can find Silas Johnson. Lead guitar and back-up vocals are dedicated to Nathan Thomson. Finally, drums and bass fall into the hands of Paul Dixon and Labeeb Chaudhari, accordingly.
Their music represents all of their collective diverse music tastes colliding. The high energy that they design into their music comes from Silas’s loud powerhouse vocals and Paul’s intense attack of his kit. To accompany this energy, Nate and Labeeb offer a unique contrast in their respective classic and psychedelic rock writing styles.
The name “The Ninety Seven” was a result of recognizing the consistent release year, 1997, of the music that they bonded over. Songs from the albums The Colours and the Shape by Foo Fighters, In Loving Memory Of… by Big Wreck, and Third Eye Blind(self-titled), were always safe options on AUX. After bouncing around with many different projects in their youth, they finally came together to begin writing music under the title the “The Ninety Seven”.
The band states, “Forming a “rock band”, in university, with a bunch of people that were once absolute strangers is an experience we’ve seen, you’ve seen and everyone else has seen. Many student bands rise and fall. Just so they end up with their full-time career that they paid for, studied for, and are now living for. We’ll do whatever it takes to not be that cliché.”
