Voluntary Self-Identification

The Arty Crowd funding sources require inclusion of members who identify as belonging to priority groups encompassing: Indigenous, ethnocultural communities, rural or remote residents, youth, and Francophones (english and french). Hamilton Arts Council further wants to measure its success in attracting members from all the diverse groups we serve in the Greater Hamilton Area arts community, including those who are LGBTQ2S+, and persons with disabilities. Biography / Artistic Statement / Creative Vision

Tanis Sydney MacArthur has been an independent costumier for performing artists for more than 30 years. She is also an interpretive dance artist, choreographer, aerialist, stilt walker, prop maker, creature designer and large scale inflatable sculpture artist. Clients of note include Company Blonde Productions, Lookup Theatre, Femmes du Feu, Hamilton Aerial Group, Aeris Korper, Fly With Me Aerial Dance, Steel the Sky Aerial Arts, Team T&amp;J, Mabel Moon, Learie McNicolls, Red Betty Theatre, Aoucheva Dance Studio, Defining Movement Dance Company, and Artword Theatre. She placed third nationally in the Smirnoff International Fashion Awards 1994 and regularly contributed original designs to Fashion Cares. She served as designer/key wardrobe for the film A Windigo Tale by Armand Garnet Ruffo. Tanis has dabbled in acting with Artword Theatre, being part of the ensemble since 2010. Many movement styles are part of her history including modern dance, ballet, jazz, tap, belly dance, flamenco, african, irish, ballroom, yoga and somatic. She has participated in public outreach dance works including move by Peggy Baker, KRIMA! by Maxine Heppner and Dusk Dances. She created The Arctic Fox, Inspired by Icebergs and Fly South, outdoor installations of multiple large-scale inflatable sculptures, in collaboration with Cobalt Connects.
