New Vintage Winds was created during the first days of the pandemic when a gathering of five unrelated people was permitted under public health rules of the time. We are five classically trained musicians who rehearse in Ancaster and perform across Burlington, Hamilton, and into the Niagara Penninsula. At first, when only outdoor gatherings could take place, we performed at botanical gardens and wineries. In the past two years, we have been coming inside to churches and retirement homes. In August 2024, we are on the program to perform in the Hamilton Public Library Friday noon concert series.
New Vintage Wind musicians comprise all different vintages, with our youngest members in their 30s, our rehearsal leader in his 40s, and the elders in their 60s. Four of our members perform with Sinfonia Ancaster and one member performs with the Oakville Symphony. Our chamber programming varies from orchestral classics arranged for quintet (i.e. Debussy's Petite Suite) to film, Latin dance music, and down-home eastern kitchen music.
Members of New Vintage Winds include: Paul Burnip, clarinet (Ancaster rehearsal host); Carolann Moisse, flute; Miguel Angel Soler Laverde, oboe; Lydia Beaudette, bassoon; Michael Hindricks, horn.
