Laura Welch is Actor/Singer/Theatre Maker who was born and raised in Hamilton and is currently based out of Hamilton, Ontario.
Laura is Graduate of George Brown's Classical Theatre Program and Theatre Aquarius's Performing Arts Program. She originated the role of Jenna in Michael Kras's Voaden Prize Award Winning play The Team at Essential Collective Theatre. In addition to performing regularly on Indie and Professional stages across Southern Ontario, Laura writes, produces, and directs with her Theatre Company Light Echo Theatre.
Since May 2020, Laura has co-hosted and co-produced an arts podcast called The Why Art Podcast with Rose Hopkins. Over the two season of the podcast the duo has interviewed Artists of various disciplines about why art is valuable. Guests include: Kyle Fisher of the Dirty Nil, Samantha Walkes from Kings of Napa, and Gemma New, Conductor of the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra.
In addition to performing, Laura participates in community projects through Hamilton's Industry. She is currently Project Coordinator on The Safer Spaces Project. The Safer Spaces Project aims to collect data from theatre artists about the conditions in theatre spaces that cause harm.
Laura is also one of the founding members and producers of The Garden Project. The Garden Project is a regional grassroots fundraiser created to address in gap in funding and mentorship for Black Artists, Indigenous Artists, Artists of Colour in Hamilton.
