In an era where musical boundaries are constantly being pushed, Izomura emerges as a relentless innovator, re-defining the conventions of R&B with every lyric and instrumental. Moving to Canada as a child, singer-songwriter/producer Vikaash “Izomura” Arunmozhi grew up inspired by the vibrant sounds of South India, his father being a classically trained carnatic vocalist. Following in his footsteps, Izomura began singing and playing the drums as a child.
As his musical perspective grew, so did his range of influences. Inspired by artists like Dijon and Hozier to pick up the guitar, his new instrument helped him from his freshly experimental style of music. Producing all of his own music, Izomura’s blend of ethereal electronic soundscapes, underground samples, distorted drums and a rough-around-the-edges guitar style creates a signature sound that is unique to the 21-year-old.
In 2023, Izomura released his debut album, Burned Away, a powerful and evocative exploration of the caste system and colourism through the eyes of multiple generations of his family. He also wrote the music for McMaster University’s Fall Major Production, Nothing Remains the Same, an experimental live show dissecting the issue of climate change and featuring his first published song, Decay.
With his latest releases, Izomura continues to explore complex social issues with his vulnerable lyrics and constantly evolving production. With a fearless dedication to both his craft and causes, Izomura represents the next generation of musical innovation and activism, proving that music can be a force for change and a catalyst for healing.
