Ava Hickey is an independent alternative folk rock musician from Hamilton, Ontario. Classically trained in voice and cello, Ava grew up also learning piano and guitar and listening to the alternative rock her parents loved. After learning her love for writing and recording her own music during the COVID-19 pandemic, Ava attended Fanshawe College's Music Industry Arts program where she learned the ins and outs of the music industry and honed the craft of her song creation. Ava takes inspiration from the 80s and 90s alt rock artists she grew up on such as R.E.M. and The Smiths, as well as more modern folk and alternative artists like Big Thief, Modern Baseball, Alex G, and Pinegrove. She released an EP of demos, Champ, on Soundcloud in June of 2024, and released her first official single, "Bitter", on all streaming platforms the following August. She lives and works in Hamilton, Ontario, performing at small local venues and creating new music.
