VOICES (That's What She Said)

June 8 at 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm

An audio/visual exploration of the impact women have made through the power of their voices.

The artists is using audio to enhance the visual experience while prompting the viewer to wonder whose female voices have been elevated while others have been dismissed.
Original art by Tania LaCaria will be exhibited in tandem with audio clips from women's speeches, monologues and spoken word that features women sharing their perspectives and first-hand experiences around themes based in relationships, systemic racism, gender-based discrimination, self-love, living with hardship and illness and other women's issues.

Through this audio/visual exhibition, the artist is asking attendees the following questions: Who are you listening to? Whose opinions are influencing your own? How have you used your voice to do better? Is your voice alone enough to inspire others? Does representation matter? Can you remember a time when someone's words changed your life? Who comes to mind when you think of powerful, inspiring, impactful womens’ voices?

This exhibition is a Signature Event for Hamilton Arts Week 2024 and funding was provided by Hamilton Arts Council via the Canadian Council for the Arts, sponsored by McMaster's Live Lab, Tammy Phinney of Tammy Phinney Realty, and Erika Matko Photo.

The LiveLab research-based performance theatre is located on the 2nd floor of the psychology building on McMaster University Campus in Hamilton, Ontario. The space has elevators and ramps for barrier-free access. This is a free event open to the public.
