[Hamilton, ON, January 28, 2022]-Earls Court Gallery is excited to present “Repertoire” in Gallery opening February 24, 2022, showcasing artworks by esteemed artist Chelo Sebastian.
This solo exhibition offers a sampling from the bodies of work that Sebastian has produced over her 30 plus year artistic career. In addition to some familiar subject matters like, Jazz players, gardens and urban scenes, “Repertoire” also unveils a selection of new work.
Over the last 30 years, Chelo Sebastian has uplifted the reputation of watercolour by breaking the rules around what is expected. No dainty little watercolour paintings here – rather splashes of bold colour by way of strong gestures. Her images incorporate torn collage pieces from other paintings, which are then fused and layered with inks, pastels and found papers. Amongst this mess of creation and dedication to finding the image, Sebastian brings forth striking images that embody depth and movement to captivate the viewer in place.
“For me, each painting is a fresh thought that can be developed further and further. By offering glimpses of recognizable images and recombining them with collage and mixed media, a new relationship is born allowing me to follow the painting to its finished image.”
– Chelo Sebastian
The paintings will be featured in the vast main gallery. All artworks will be featured online upon installation. Entry is free and family friendly.
