Opening Act: Caroline Wiles
Ray Materick first appeared on the Canadian musical landscape in 1972 with a raw, romantic & politically lyrical collection of songs called “Sidestreets” that the Toronto Star picked as the BEST FOLK ALBUM of the year, calling it “Just remarkable”.
From there, 3 major album releases on the renowned ASYLUM RECORDS ( Warner Bros Records) who also signed, Jackson Browne, The Eagles, Bob Dylan & Joni Mitchell; garnered commercial success and critical acclaim, landing Ray with 3 songs in the top ten with his big number one hit in 1974, LINDA PUT THE COFFEE ON… an infectious folk rock song that is still receiving serious airplay on many stations today across Canada.
In 2005, Linus Entertainment & Warner Music released the beautiful and complex LIFE AND TIMES, a 24 song double disc career perspective featuring new and classic material, spanning a 35 year career as a respected songwriter and performer.
“There is no doubt that Ray Materick can write and sing truly great songs. His work stands up to, and sometimes over, the works of Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, John Mellencamp & Graham Parker”
Glen Nott, Hamilton Spectator
“Like poets through the ages and the very best songwriters of today, Ray Materick crafts songs about the universal things that strike close to the bone – in fact, one would be hard pressed to find a more accomplished songwriter & more expressive, passionate & soulful voice anywhere in popular music today”
Robert Reid, the record.com
Ray continues to discover, mentor and produce new singer/songwriters while continuing to relentlessly write, record and perform his own material.
Ray’s appearance at the Westdale Theatre will feature his original band playing songs from The Asylum Records releases. This concert will be the performance of the decade in this city and will be a wonderful reunion of musical talent.
