An online fundraiser for flood relief for Malaysia and the Philippines
About this event
On December 12, 2021 Typhoon Odette (Rai) hit Malaysia and swept through the Philippines. This event is an online fundraiser to support areas in Malaysia and the Philippines affected by Typhoon Odette (Rai). We’re bringing Malaysian and Filipino communities together for a night of music, storytelling, poetry and performance, and will be featuring artists living in Malaysia and the Philippines, as well as artists of the Southeast Asian diaspora. Although we are separated by distance, we are connected by our shared humanity.
Translated from Malay, 'Rakyat' means people, and 'Kabangka' is a tagalog expression meaning "in the same boat". We know that as waters rise, as storms descend and tragedies unfold, we know that the ties that bind us together are the lifelines that will help us see it through. Together 'Rakyat Kabangka' means "people in the same boat".
This event is a fundraiser, although there is no charge for admission, we do encourage a donation to our fundraiser. To donate, please go to gofund.me/7235bcaa
