About the exhibition "Bouquet"

[Hamilton, ON, March 8, 2022]- With the coming of Spring, Earls Court Gallery is excited to launch a new exhibition titled BOUQUET opening Thursday, April 7, 2022. Bouquet features the talents of four painters who investigate florals beyond just looking pretty: Donna Fratesi (Burlington), Clarence Porter (Hamilton), Sandra Manzi (Hamilton) and Miriam Traher (London).

BOUQUET brings together an arrangement of artists to investigate various forms of flora. By way of pastel, acrylic and oil paint, and mixed media, these artists exemplify that there is countless ways to create a depiction of flowers than just in an aesthetically pleasing bouquet.
Donna Fratesi reflects on the flora found in her garden and how they change over time once collected. Her paintings illustrate visual metaphors on how to live and our mortality.

With soft Pastels, Clarence Porter looks close at the common and wild floras’ shadows reaching across the urban boundaries set into place by humans-they reach in a way as if to take back ground.

Painter Sandra Manzi layers a dense collection of images, including figurative, architecture and flora to break free from the expected depictions of floral still lifes found in the cannon of Art History. Her paintings often allude to the aesthetics of digital collage in the way that the images look like they are layered transparences over each other.

Mixed Media artist Miriam Traher uses the dialogue of colour, form and gestural mark-making to suggest the formal idea of a bouquet, however via abstraction, the bouquet is disjointed. With the use of colour, Traher’s paintings instill energy and excitement in the viewer.
The artworks will be featured in the vast main gallery. All artworks will also be highlighted online allowing for easy purchase and shipping anywhere. Entry is free and family friendly.

BOUQUET exhibition can be viewed in person at 215 Ottawa Street North, Hamilton. Earls Court Gallery is open Tuesday – Friday 10 am to 5 pm and Saturday 10 am to 4 pm.
