A Make & Take Holiday Art Therapy Group
Led by Jasmyne Smith, Art Therapist
During the final month of the year, we’re often swamped with social events, and pre- occupied with preparing for the holidays. What an important time to set aside some space and energy for ourselves, and reflect on the year. This art therapy group will allow for creative healing through reflection on the impressions you have made this year on others in your life, and on your community. Through print making onto canvas bags with found objects, we’ll take the time to consider different people, places, and areas we have left our mark this year. As well as create a unique bag to take home. All materials included and no artistic experience necessary!
Art Therapy is a form of psychotherapy where we can use art and creativity as a modality of self-expression, emotion regulation, and reflection. Art therapy is different than art classes because there is no right or wrong way to engage with the materials – techniques are not taught in a step-by-step fashion – rather the participants can use the materials however they see fit to reflect on a theme. Emphasis is on healing through the creative process, rather than on the aesthetic quality of the artwork.
