Find your metalsmithing super power! Learning how to make cold connections - the joining of metal without heat - will take your creative and technical abilities to another level. You will learn how to make a wire rivet, tube rivet, and hinged tab, by creating a pendant.
Cold connections will expand your design repertoire as you are shown many alternatives to soldering. Materials that can not withstand heat, such as bone, wood, and plastic can be skillfully incorporated into your designs. Donna always encourages the use of techniques that allow jewelry to stand the test of time - certain pitfalls related to cold connection are touched on, such as using glue to hold your work together (not a good idea!)
You will learn within a dynamic working jewelry studio and have the opportunity to continue to learn and grow as a metalsmith: amateur or professional.
All sessions are taught in Donna’s spacious, comfortable, and well-equipped studio in downtown Hamilton. You will learn by jumping in and beginning a project in the first session!
Workshop fee includes materials, step-by-step instructions for your project, on-line access to printable/downloadable information and an image slideshow. Please bring a dust mask, pencil, notebook, and a small container to store your projects.
This workshop is suitable for you if you have prior metalsmithing experience or have taken Exploring the Monad: Designing, Forming and Shaping Metal, or Play with Fire and Hammer like a Boss: Introduction to Jewelry Making and Metalsmithing.
