Hamilton-based Curator, Regional Archive, has been invited to showcase the work of local artists Melanie Cheung & Shea Chang at Art Fair | Detroit
Art Fair | Detroit will transform the city into a canvas for creativity over three days, featuring a rich tapestry of exhibitions, installations, performances, and engaging connections. Spread across 10+ locations and neighborhoods in Detroit, the fair invites the public to immerse themselves in the city’s thriving art scene and forge meaningful relationships with artists and fellow art lovers.
Regional Archive will be presenting an exhibition centred around collective sensory experience. Titled "The Act of Discovery and Lasting Joy", the exhibition includes a series of assembled works curated to evoke curiosity and the feeling of home.
This is a milestone event for the Curator and Artists alike and we are thrilled to be showcasing Canadian Artists in the US market.
Regional Archive is a creative studio providing Art Consultancy & Production services. Built from a place of discovery, the studio is inspired by the creative output of artists, designers & makers at the local and regional scale. The studio's mission is to support creation, share stories of the creative process and in turn deepen our connection and regard for the work.
The studio is run by Amy Peebles, who curates all associated projects and has worked in the arts for the last 15 years. Peebles has been involved in realizing projects across artistic mediums and scales, including curating the 10th anniversary special projects for Toronto’s Nuit Blanche, directing production for Montreal’s projection mapping festival MAPP MTL, and curating artistic programming for Festival Mural resulting in the commission of over 60 permanent and semi-permanent artworks. .

Melanie Cheung is an abstract artist based in Hamilton, On, Canada. Her work delves into the elusive aspects of human experience, casting light on emotions that often defy explanation. Utilizing fluid layers of paint and mixed media, Melanie's creative process merges thoughtful planning with intuitive expression, resulting in works that are both unassuming and impactful. Working with unique colour pairings and organic shapes, Melanie seeks to capture the quiet narratives of our inner lives.
Originating from Toronto,ON, Canada, Melanie holds a Bachelor of Design in fashion design from Toronto Metropolitan University. Having spent twelve formative years working in the fashion industry in Montreal, she relocated to Hamilton in 2020, where she currently resides and paints from her downtown studio.

Shea Chang’s artistic practice is informed by her multi-racial and queer identities, shapeshifting between the realms of drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, installation, and public art. Her artwork has manifested through solo and collaborative projects in Canada and internationally for over 15 years, with highlights on platforms such as Mepaintsme, CBC Arts, and Opaloma. Her education and training span both art and design fields, with a Diploma of Fine Arts from Langara College in Vancouver and a Bachelor of Design in Illustration from OCAD University in Toronto. During her MFA in Visual Art at York University in Toronto, Shea received a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) scholarship award and the 2020 Samuel Sarick Purchase Prize.
Shea is an Associate Professor of Illustration in the Faculty of Design at OCAD University, collaborating with students and fellow educators on exhibitions, public art projects, and online international learning experiences with institutions such as LaSalle Collect of the Arts in Singapore. Shea is currently based in Hamilton, ON.
