The Bach Elgar Choir’s upcoming performance Duruflé Requiem / Spirituals explores the roots of our music traditions.
Incorporating the tradition of medieval chant, Duruflés 1947 Requiem sounds both ancient and modern, with music of great gentleness as well as searing drama. Celebrating Black North American composers, the Bach Elgar Choir sings a collection of Spirituals – which are at the root of many contemporary, popular music styles.
The program features famous works by Nathaniel Dett, Moses Hogan, Harry T. Burleigh, and other Black composers.
The performance features the marvellous Bach Elgar Choir and celebrated organist Ian Sadler.
