Cotton Factory Presents "A Little A Lot"; a Survey Exhibition of the work of Andrew McPhail
In a practice comprised of repetitive gestures, Andrew McPhail presents a life of survival, perseverance and accumulation.
Focused primarily on drawing in his earlier years as an artist, McPhail’s interest subsequently shifted towards three-dimensional and performative works after moving to Hamilton in 2005. His craft-oriented pieces reconfigure everyday disposable materials while conveying a broader consideration of personal-social-cultural conversations.
A Little A Lot presents a range of excerpts from the past 30 years, a period coinciding with his diagnosis as a PWA. Experiencing these different bodies of work together for the first time, we begin to see some of the larger concerns and common strategies McPhail has explored in the last three decades.
