MR. BURNS: A POST ELECTRIC PLAY by Anne Washburn
Score by Michael Friedman Lyrics by Anne Washburn
9M Theatre is holding auditions for its production of “Mr. Burns: a post electric play” written by Anne Washburn! The production will be at The Gasworks in Hamilton and be directed by Liz Buchanan.
Anne Washburn’s imaginative dark comedy propels us forward nearly a century, following a new civilization stumbling into its future.
After the collapse of civilization, a group of survivors share a campfire and begin to piece together the plot of The Simpsons episode "Cape Feare" entirely from memory. Seven years later, this and other snippets of pop culture (sitcom plots, commercials, jingles, and pop songs) have become the live entertainment of a post-apocalyptic society, sincerely trying to hold onto its past. Seventy-five years later, these are the myths and legends from which new forms of performance are created (https://www.concordtheatricals.com/p/15164/mr-burns-a-post-electric-play).
8 roles of any race, gender/gender identity, sexual orientation, physical ability, etc. Everyone is welcome! Singing/musical ability is an asset, but not required. Stage combat experience also an asset (because it wouldn’t be 9M if there wasn’t a sword fight). For the safety and accessibility of the show, all cast members will need to be able to provide proof of vaccination.
Payment will be by profit share: Any profits (once venue and production costs are recuperated) is divided evenly amongst the cast and crew.
Auditions dates/times: Saturday & Sunday March 26th & 27th 3-5pm. Please contact me (Liz) email@example.com to book an audition and/or with any questions.
Audition location: The GASWORKS 141 Park St N Hamilton
Performance dates: June 17th, 18th, 23rd, 24th and 25th (matinee and evening show on June 18th).
Rehearsals are tentatively scheduled for Wednesday and Sunday evenings starting in April (generally 6-9pm), with additional rehearsals added closer to the show date (dress rehearsal will be Thursday June 16th).
