Anchor | Meditations on Middle Passage Memory
Mosa McNeilly
Hamilton Arts Council's Artist In Residence, Artist Talk.
May 27, 2022
7-9pm
Reflective of an arts practice that merges with ceremonial practice, Mosa McNeilly’s work brings about an integration of the material with the ethereal. Reimagining the poetics of memorialization, McNeilly summons us to a path of bones on the ocean floor; to mourn and pay our respects to our African ancestors. Grounded in the reparative labour of gathering and assembling, this work contemplates fragmentation and gestures toward wholeness.
This event is a culmination of an artist residency at the Cotton Factory courtesy of the Hamilton Arts Council. In conversation with Sylvia Welsh, and in performance with Sharrae Lyon and Kerry Goring, the artist shares her recent work, Bones: Middle Passage Memorial.
