DVSA is seeking members to join our volunteer Board of Governors.
As a registered charity and established in 1964, DVSA is a hub of creativity touching the lives of millions. From our humble beginnings with a small dedicated group of art teachers and students, we have grown into an organization known nationally for high-quality art instruction and serving learners of all ages on site, online and in the community.
The Board of Governors of up to 15 members guides the strategic direction of the school to establish and fulfill our mission, vision and values. The Board tries to be forward-looking in supporting the school’s growth to meet the needs of our changing communities. We engage in fiduciary duties and hold oversight and accountability for the organization’s mandate.
Candidates should be passionate about DVSA and the communities we serve and demonstrate a willingness to commit their time and talents to the school as an ambassador of its Mission, Vision and Values.
In keeping with our continuing effort towards greater representation, we welcome applicants with relevant lived experience and candidates with a broad reflection of identities including, but not limited to BIPOC, LBGTQ2SIA+, age, abilities and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Currently there are 2 positions available and it would be helpful (but not necessary) to have candidates with the following skills and experience to complement our current members:
In accordance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), DVSA provides accommodation, accessible formats and communication supports at all stages of the recruiting process. We ask applicants to make their needs known in advance to info@dvsa.ca or by phoning (905)628-6357 #1.
The Board of Governors holds regular meetings throughout the year, at least once per quarter with our AGM in September. Additional committee meetings are held throughout the year. Meetings are held in the early evening and new members are elected to the Board initially for a one-year term.
Please email your current CV and letter of interest (outlining how you might contribute to the DVSA organization) as one document to info@dvsa.ca with “Board Member” in the subject heading. We are grateful for all expressions of interest. Our nominating process will seek to select candidates whose skills and experience fill gaps and complement those of our current board members.
