486 Barton is an art space in the heart of downtown Barton Village. It is home to a variety of artists and creatives and hosts a co work space, artist studios and a gallery. It's perfect for small exhibitions, storytelling events, author readings, workshops and classes.
In February of 2024, Artists Gabriel Baribeau, Amy Bowles, Luke Mistruzzi and Lisa Pijuan-Nomura became studio mates at 486 Barton and have grown to be inspired by each other's processes. In 2025, they will collaborate on a number of art projects combining processes and exploring themes of analog creation and improvisation.
Gabriel Baribeau is a Hamilton based artist. His practice focuses on sculpture, and oil painting. His work emphasizes painting’s capacity for contemporary visual poetry and storytelling. He works with themes of environmental precarity, the consumer as a global role, and art as a proponent of social change and community building.
Amy Bowles is a multi-disciplinary artist. Born in London, England, Amy moved to Toronto in 1999 after graduating with a BA in Ceramics from Cardiff Institute of Art & Design. Amy has since exhibited and performed in multiple creative projects, from theatre, film, music, painting, and drawing. Her greatest love is ceramic sculpture, which has been a focus in her career. Amy relocated to Hamilton, Ontario, in 2020 where she exhibits regularly and is an active member of the 486 Barton Street gallery team. Amy is represented by Paul Petro Contemporary Art.
Luke Mistruzzi works in time based media utilizing stop-motion, documentary, cinematography techniques. While working with arts collective A Common Collective Luke brings these skills along with his interest in multi-projection technology together with sculpture and sound artists to make location and gallery based installations. Most recently his experimental film Uncle Bardo played at Hot Docs, SFIFF, DOC NYC and The Hamilton Film Festival amongst other festivals. Currently he is inspired by the artists at 486 Barton to explore multi-plane table top animation and distorted projections in juxtaposition to their unique creations.
