Angela Eileen Skelhorn is a Canadian Visual Artist based in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Angela graduated from the Ontario College of Art and Design with a B.F.A. in Integrated Media and worked for a time in Film. Her first passion was creating artwork in a variety of formats including drawing, painting, experimental film and installation.
After graduating in 2008 she journeyed through a myriad of life experiences. Initially she worked on film sets in the production office, eventually finding herself behind the desk of a local music shop in Toronto while raising her son. She continued searching for a way to express herself artistically over the years.
In 2012 she decided to go to school at George Brown College for Early Childhood Education and began to bring her love of process based arts to her work with children. In this time she had three more children (all girls!) and moved to Hamilton, Ontario.
Angela's love of process based art and sensory experiences culminated in her first entrepreneurial adventure with Messy Play Studio. She opened the program that focused of providing creative experiences for children and their grown ups in 2016. She loved coming up with new and interesting ways to engage children from 6 months to 6 years in hands on play and artistic expression. Then 2020 came and along with it the Covid pandemic. She decided to close that chapter and continue on her path of self discovery and soul searching.
As 2022 came close to an end she was re-emerging as a visual artist and re-discovering her creative practice that has always been at the core of her life since childhood. She explores many different mediums of creative expression and is drawn to painting in a style akin to the swirling landscapes of Van Gogh. She works in a palette of greens and blues with pops of red and yellow and enjoys exploring subjects in the natural world - abstract floral and rolling landscapes are her focus.
Angela's journey is still evolving and growing and we hope that you will join her on this creative path and support a local artist whose passion remains in the images she creates.
